"Have you ever met a fire chief that also writes children’s books? You haven’t? Well, then meet B.J. Jetter.
By day he’s the Chief of the Sycamore Township Fire Department. In his spare time he authored a book for boys and girls
called "Little Green Firetruck." "Actually, the idea came from my grandsons," said Chief Jetter. They wanted to know why Sycamore
Township’s fire trucks are green and vehicles of most other fire departments are red. "I told them the trucks represent
the township colors and that we’re always being razzed that our fire trucks haven’t ripened to the color 'red'
yet," Jetter added. It was at that point a story about a small town with a red fire truck started swirling in Jetter’s
head. "Little Green Firetuck" is a tale about the town of 'Berg' that was served for 50 years by a red fire truck named "Old
Betsy." When "Old Betsy" is finally retired to a park near the firehouse, the department needs a new truck in a hurry. The
only one available is painted green, something that shocks Berg’s citizens. There’s a happy ending, though, when
the "Little Green Firetruck" is accepted as a suitable replacement for "Old Besty."
